Liberman chooses Shimon Elkabetz as new head of Army Radio

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman has decided to appoint Shimon Elkabetz as the commander of Israel’s Army Radio, replacing current commander Yaron Dekel.
"I have reached the conclusion that at this time he is the most suitable person to lead Army Radio to face the challenges facing the station in the world of communications,” Liberman said, adding “I wish Shimon Elkabetz success.”
Elkabetz, 51, who is expected to begin his position in early September, was chosen following a series of interviews by the Defense Ministry.
He served as a correspondent for Army Radio in the south of the country as as an editor at the station’s news desk where he founded and directed Radio South, Radio Tel Aviv, Radio Jerusalem and Radio Galil Israel. He currently serves as the radio director of Israel’s public broadcasting corporation.
Elkabetz thanked Liberman for “his  trust and choice” and for the members of the search committee for their “praiseworthy and unequivocal recommendation.”
“I was the correspondent of Army Radio in the south and the Gaza Strip, and for years I edited the station's morning shows. Army Radio was and remains a clear and important voice in public broadcasting in Israel, and it will continue to be. "
