Lod apartment building evacuated due after pesticide spill

An apartment building in Lod had to be evacuated late on Wednesday night after a large amount of the Polaris 40 herbicide spilled in one of the residences.

Fire and rescue crews carried out the cleanup, mopping and clearing away the powerful pesticide, but fears remained that the dangerous substance could remain present in the air. Police were forced to evacuate all residents from the building, as per the instructions of the Health and Environmental Protection ministries.

The Environmental Protection ministry was in the process of carrying out tests throughout the day on Thursday to determine when it will be safe for tenants to return home.
