Maj. Gen. (res.) Uzi Dayan discusses Israel’s security needs with Australian diplomat

Maj. Gen. (res.) Uzi Dayan met to discuss Israel’s security on Monday with James McGarry, the Deputy Head of Mission at the Australian Embassy.

Dayan told the Australian diplomat that Israel’s full control over the Jordan Valley, along its eastern border, is a prerequisite to any future agreement with the Palestinians.

According to Dayan, the instability in the Middle East requires Israel to maintain strategic depth and the ability to defend against an attack from outside.

Additionally, full Israeli control in the Jordan Valley will facilitate the demilitarization of any Palestinian entity, which is key to stability for any possible agreement, he added.
