Mali government says to delay constitutional referendum

Mali's government said on Wednesday it was delaying a July 9 referendum on changes to the country's constitution that would have reinforced presidential powers and created new regions under an accord signed in 2015 with northern separatists.
The changes have been the subject of protests in the capital Bamako. The government announced the decision after a cabinet meeting and gave no reason for the delay and set no new date.
