Man caught after short-lived robbery spree in Tel Aviv

Hours after he went on a short-lived, violent robbery spree in the Tel Aviv area, an armed and apparently distressed man was arrested by Tel Aviv in the southern Gush Dan area.

The man, 51-year-old Nikolai Rabinov was caught walking down a street in Bat Yam, carrying the pistol he allegedly used in both robberies Monday night. Rabinov's arrest brought to an end a short-lived manhunt that saw police deploy officers across the Gush Dan area to find him, with police asking the press to circulate his photo so the public would know to avoid a man they said was armed and dangerous.

Around 7:30 pm Rabinov allegedly walked into a jewelry store on Allenby street in Tel Aviv and asked the owner to give him some cash, saying that he's terminally ill and needs to pay for a ticket to Russia to visit his mother. When the man refused, Rabinov allegedly hit him in the head and fired a few shots into the air, before stealing a few hundred shekels from the man as well as a bag of jewelry. The clerk was lightly wounded in the attack and was hospitalized afterwards.
