MDA advises tourists on El Al how to avoid health dangers

As many first-time tourists to Israel are unaware of the implications of the heat waves that occur during August and September and are unprepared for their effects during travel, Magen David Adom has provided background material that is now being placed in all incoming El Al flights. MDA thus hopes it can reduce the number of emergency calls to help visitors who have dehydrated and suffered heat stroke during their stay here. In the leaflet, produced in English as well as Hebrew, visitors are advised to drink at least five liters and during strenuous activity, at least 10 liters of water a day. One should drink even when not thirsty, stay in the shade as much as possible, use sunscreen, wear long-sleeved light clothing and a protective hat. The leaflet also describes how to cope with jellyfish, using vinegar or salt water against stings rather than potable water.
