Mekel out with knee injury

Dallas Mavericks guard Gal Mekel is set to miss between four and six weeks after being diagnosed with a slight tear in the meniscus of his right knee, which will likely require surgery.

The 25-year-old Israeli rookie missed Dallas’s game at the LA Clippers on Wednesday night after recording one of his best showings of the season against Orlando on Monday, registering seven assists and just one turnover.

“I don’t know what happened,” said Mekel, who has averaged 2.4 points and 2.1 assists in 30 games this season.“It started getting sore in the first half. It just felt weird and it got swollen a little bit.”
