Meretz MK Gal-On: Referendums are the refuge of a coward

"Referendums are the refuge of a coward," Meretz chairwoman Zahava Gal-On stated on Monday in response to the prime minister's pledge that any agreement would be brought to the nation in the form of a referendum for its approval.

In a statement to the press, Gal-On stated that calling for a referendum shows the responsibility of leadership is too much for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

The left-wing leader added that Meretz is against the referendum, as elections are set to select the representatives of the peoples to will determine questions of war and peace.

"If the government can go to war, it should also be able to make peace," she stated.

Gal-On added that the process of a referendum makes sense when the government is dealing with internal and legal issues, "but not when the decision is about freedom and human rights of another."
