Merkel assumes UK to stick with its Brexit talks plan after election

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Friday she assumed that Britain would stick to its Brexit negotiation plan after the country's surprise election results, adding that she wanted to get to work quickly on talks over Britain's separation from the European Union.
Speaking in Mexico City alongside Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, Merkel said she was ready for the Brexit negotiations, which are due to begin in the coming days. She added that Britain will still remain in Europe after Brexit, and that she wanted the country to remain a good partner.
