Merkel in China to strengthen economic ties

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang held talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday morning at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
At Li's invitation, Merkel is paying an official visit to China from Thursday to Friday. It was her eighth visit to China since 2005 in the capacity of chancellor.
Merkel's visit is designed to strengthen economic ties and shore up German business interests in China. She's accompanied by a business delegation that includes CEOs from big companies and small and medium-sized enterprises.
Prior to the talks, Li also held a red-carpet ceremony to welcome the German chancellor.
