Merkel: US-Europe ties 'severely shaken' over phone tapping allegations

Ties between Europe and the US have been "severely shaken" amid reports that the US National Security Agency had monitored various German and French phone records, CNN cited German Chancellor Angela Merkel as saying.
"Trust needs to be rebuilt," Merkel said following allegations that the NSA had tapped her private mobile phone, adding that "words will not be sufficient" .
