Miliband calls on Hamas to release Gilad Schalit immediately

British Foreign Secretary David Miliband on Thursday repeated the UK's call to Hamas for the immediate, unconditional and safe release of captive IDF soldier Gilad Schalit. In a statement released on the third anniversary of Schalit's kidnapping, Miliband said that the UK shares "the Schalit family's dismay at Hamas's refusal to allow the Red Cross access to Gilad." The British minister also mentioned the plight of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and repeated the UK's call on Israel "to reduce further the current restrictions on the Gaza crossings, to allow in aid, reconstruction materials, and trade goods, and to permit the legitimate flow of people through the crossings."
