Milk prices will fall by 4.62% after Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel signed an order tightening price controls. Last week, the committee on price controls decreased the price of raw milk 6.48%.
"This is a reduction whose entire purpose is aimed at reaching the consumer's pocket, and not in order to enrich your coffers," Ariel said to companies that produce dairy products of the price reduction in raw milk.
Ariel added that he intended to reduce the prices of non-supervised dairy products as well, and would consider further price controls.
The price of dairy strikes a particular nerve among the Israeli public, whose 2011 summer protests about the cost of living followed an outcry over the high cost of cottage cheese.
