Min. to consider change in gay question for blood donors

In her first public decision in her new post, Health Minister Yael German asked ministry professionals to look into changing the questionnaire for blood donors that relates to sex between men. The section in the questionnaire has existed since 1977.

HIV is more common among homosexuals than heterosexuals.

German said on Sunday that immediately after Pessah, the ministry’s advisory committee on blood transfusions would meet to discuss the matter. She said that not only health professionals but also representatives of the homosexual/lesbian community would be invited to discuss the matter.
