Ministers approves domestic violence combat plan

The Ministerial Committee for Combating Domestic Violence approved the intra-ministerial recommendation for the national plan to combat domestic violence.
The plan suggests new ways in the fields of preventing, location, enforcing, punishing and rehabilitating those who were involved in domestic violence in its different forms. The costs of the five years plan is an estimated NIS 250 million.
The plan will include the establishment of an intra-ministerial formation for coordination. The formation will include the opening of regional assisting centers and a 24/7 hotline for women under threat; special adjustment for special target groups including Arabs, Haredi, Olim (new immigrants) and mentally disabled. These adjustments will include utilizing new technological developments to prevent violence cases and supervision.
It was also decided to establish “family departments” in 15 police stations throughout the country.
Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud), who heads this committee, said that domestic violence is one of the harshest phenomenons that Israel is facing, and it should combated and eventually eliminated.
“I welcome the implementation of the plan and hope that all ministries will act quickly in order to carrie it out,” he said.
