Ministers reject term limits bill

The Ministerial Committee for Legislation on Momday voted against a bill by MK Merav Michaeli (Zionist Union) that would have barred Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from holding the position again.
The proposal states that the president may not give the job of forming a government to someone who, within the first two years of his term, will have served over eight consecutive years as prime minister.
Netanyahu has been prime minister since 2009, meaning that, had the bill passed, it would have prevented him from running again.
