The Ministry of Defense announced Tuesday that it would recognize the March 19 Istanbul bombing as a terror attack against Israelis, and that its survivors would be eligible to receive benefits which victims of terror attacks are entitled to.
The ministry opened an investigation immediately following the March bombing to determine the motives behind the attack. An investigative body was responsible for speaking to relevant authorities and aggregating information pertaining to the attack.
Findings revealed that the attack was most likely directed at Israeli tourists.
Due to these findings, a senior legal adviser to the Ministry of Defense decided to recognize the attack as an act of terror against Israelis. The decision will enable the department dealing with victims of terror attacks within the National Insurance Institute to assist the victims of the Istanbul attack.
