MK Danon: Irresponsible merger will lead to erosion of power

MK Danny Danon, who is slated to challenge Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the upcoming Likud leadership race, spoke out against merging with the Bayit Yehudi party.
Speaking at a cultural event in Netanya on Saturday, Danon said he intends to fight against any attempt to unite the two parties.
Calling talks on the possibility of a merger by "certain members of the Likud," "irresponsible," he said such a political deal would result not only in the loss of mandates, but ultimately, in the erosion of power.
He predicted that promises of "increased mandates" for the faction would have the same fate as the Likud-Beytenu partnership, a merger with Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman's party which dissolved in July.
"I will prevent any steps that will harm the Likud brand," he said .
