Responding to the Knesset's approval of an Israel Beiteinu proposal to form a commission of inquiry looking into the activities and sources of financing of left-wing non-governmental organizations, MK Nitzan Horowitz criticized the initiative as reminiscent of "dark regimes," and said it is "crossing a red line."
Horowitz slammed the use of budgetary and parliamentary tools to hold a political inquiry intended to "shut mouths, silence legitimate criticism, thus infringing upon the basic rights of those holding differing opinions." He added, "This is political persecution under the cover of a parliamentary investigative committee. If you receive a proposal for a Knesset commission, it is crossing a red line."
