MK Zehava Gal-On was voted the leader of Meretz on Tuesday, receiving some 60 percent of the party's governing council's vote in an election held Tuesday.
Gal-On received 506 votes to her competitor Ilan Gilon's 306 votes. Meretz youth leader Ori Ophir received 23 votes.
Polls were open from 4 to 10 p.m., but due to the party’s sophisticated computerized voting system, results were announced just before 11.
Some 90 percent of the 1,000 member Meretz governing council took part in the vote.
