MKs renew law to jail employers of illegal migrants

The Knesset Interior Committee renewed a law that would put employers illegally hiring migrants in jail for up to five years, even though Yesh Atid voted with the opposition.
The law applies to those employing migrants who do not have a work permit.
During the meeting, Yesh Atid MKs decided they opposed the bill because the law is not sufficiently enforced and businesses employ migrants secretly, pay them very little and don't give them benefits.
The measure passed in the committee with seven in favor and four opposed, because Shas and UTJ MKs voted with the coalition.
Still, Interior Committee chairman Miri Regev (Likud Beytenu) said it would not be finalized until the coalition reached agreements on the matter.
