Mofaz: Goal to enlist 80% of haredim to IDF, civil service

Vice Premier Shaul Mofaz said Monday that he would like to see 80 percent of haredi (ultra-Orthodox) youth enlist in the IDF or National Service.
Speaking at a Kadima faction meeting, Mofaz's comments came as the Keshev Committee was working to replace the Tal Law, which has allowed the framework for haredi yeshiva students to indefinitely postpone IDF service.
The Keshev Committee is being chaired by Kadima MK Yohanan Plessner. It was tasked with composing a bill for equality in the burden by June 28. The Tal Law will cease to be valid on August 1 in accordance with a High Court of Justice ruling that it is unconstitutional.
