Former defense minister Shaul Mofaz intends to meet in the near future with senior Hamas leaders, pending approval by legal advisers, his spokeswoman said Monday, confirming a report on Channel 10. According to the report, the Kadima MK asked legal advisers whether it would be a crime for him to meet with representatives of the illegal terrorist organization. While Hamas officials initially reacted with derision to Mofaz's offer to meet with them, the report stated that they now are interested in such a meeting. "If Hamas officials, who know that I killed their leader would meet with me, I would meet with them," Mofaz reportedly told confidants, referring to the Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, who was killed by an IDF helicopter gunship in 2004, when Mofaz was defense minister. No location has been set for the meeting and it is still unclear which Hamas leader Mofaz would meet. One name that has risen is former Hamas foreign minister Mahmoud Zahar.
