Mofaz slams PM over breakaway bill: 'You're not living in Cuba'

Kadima MK Shaul Mofaz on Monday lashed out at Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for the latter's intention to push through the bill known as the 'Mofaz Law' in a first Knesset reading later that evening. The law would change the rules so that a rebel faction would no longer need to constitute a third of a party's MKs to break away, but would only need seven lawmakers. The bill is seen as directed at the right flank of Kadima, encouraging it to break away and re-join the Likud and the government. "Mr Prime Minister, I want to remind you of something you have apparently forgotten: Israel is a democratic state. You're not living in Cuba and Israelis are not citizens of North Korea," said Mofaz in the Knesset. "Here, a prime minister respects the Knesset, the laws of the country and the people."
