Mortar falls on Israeli Golan Heights

A mortar fell in the northern Golan Heights on Friday afternoon, the army said in a statement. The mortar, which fell in Israeli territory due to the ongoing civil war in Syria did not cause any damage or injuries.
The border with Syria has been tense since the civil war erupted in 2011, and in April of 2015 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted for the first time that the IDF had carried out strikes in Syrian territory.
With various heavily armed radical groups battling President Bashar Assad, Syria is Israel’s most unpredictable and unstable neighbor and poses one of the largest risks for a sudden escalation.
