Nahariya man gets 18 years for Israeli Arab's manslaughter

A Nahariya resident found guilty of stabbing and beating a young Arab Israeli man to death was sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison by the Haifa District Court on Tuesday.
The defendant, 29-year-old Pinchas Avormed, was found guilty of manslaughter, making threats and violation of a lawful direction, since Avormed had been under house arrest for another alleged offense at the time of the manslaughter.
According to the indictment, Avormed killed his victim, 26-year-old Jamal Kiwan, in December 2010 after Kiwan parked his car outside Avormed's house. Avormed asked Kiwan to leave, and expressed objection to the fact that he was an Arab, asking "what have Arabs got to do here?", the indictment said.
The court also ordered Avormed to pay Kiwan's family NIS 80,000 compensation and imposed two suspended sentences of ten and 20 months each.
