Justice Minister Yaakov Ne'eman announced on Thursday that he would not recommend anyone as a candidate for the office of attorney-general. In doing so, Ne'eman has taken a step in guaranteeing that there will not be any political intervention in the choice of the candidate who will replace Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz next January.
A search committee headed by retired Supreme Court Justice Theodor Orr and including Likud MK Yariv Levin, former Justice Minister Moshe Nissim, Tel Aviv University Prof. Eyal Benvenisti and attorney Eyal Rozovsky is currently considering candidates for the job. It has been instructed to present the government with three possible choices.
