Negev crime boss among 79 suspects arrested in sting

Two undercover cops helped break a case that saw the arrest of an organized crime boss from the Beersheba area and 78 other suspects by Southern District police Tuesday morning.
Most of the suspects were arrested on drug dealing charges, but dozens were taken in to custody for running illegal gambling operations, extortion, money laundering, loan sharking and burglary.
Many of the suspects are men associated with Moshe Rubin, an organized crime boss in the South who for years has been a major investigative target for police.
Rubin himself was brought to the Beersheba Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday afternoon where his remand extended until May 13.
Police seized a house belonging to Rubin, as well as five cars and NIS 200,000 in cash.
Around 450 officers took part in the raids in cities across the district, an operation that District Commander Asst.-Ch. Yoram Halevy said “was different than any we’ve had before.”
