The time has possibly come to appoint a female Chief of Israel Police, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a speech on Tuesday.
“It could be the right thing to do, and possibly the time has come, to appoint down the road a female chief of police,” Netanyahu said, a day after news broke that another top police commander, Deputy Commissioner Nissim Mor, is being investigated following a sexual misconduct complaint by a subordinate female officer.“I want to advance this idea. It would be a refreshing change, a female chief of the Israel Police,” he added.
He also said that the fact that these cases are coming to light and are being investigated indicates that Israel is a law abiding state with transparency.
Earlier on Tuesday, National Israel Chief of Police Chief Inspector Yochanan Danino met with Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch at the minister’s bureau in Jerusalem where they reportedly discussed the damage the scandals have caused to the image of the police, in order to find ways to prevent future cases, Aharonovitch’s office said.
