Netanyahu announces optimistic economic news, appointment of top Likud lieutenant to ministry

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday announced that the unemployment rate dropped below 5 percent, saying that it was "extremely important for the citizens of Israel to enjoy full employment" and was pleased to see the "continued trend in growth" for the Israeli economy.
Netanyahu also announced that his number two man in the Likud party, Gilad Erdan, would be awarded a ministerial portfolio yet to be announced later Monday.
Earlier Monday also saw the appointment of former diplomat and close Netanyahu associate Dori Gold to the position of director general of the Foreign Ministry.
In other political news, Shas leader Arye Deri threatened to pull his faction out of  the newly minted Likud led coalition if his demand on the removal of sales tax on basic items was not enacted.
