Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu opened the government’s weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday by defending the decision to permit 40 percent of the natural gas discovered off the Mediterranean coast to be exported.“Without gas exports, there won’t be a market for locally produced gas,” the premier said. “There are a number of countries that kept the gas to themselves, and that gas is buried under layers of populism. For decades, the state of Israel has looked for gas, but those who managed to find it were from the private sector.”In alluding to the government’s decision to extend daylight savings time until October, Netanyahu added: “Now we have the land of milk, honey, gas, and sunlight.”
