Netanyahu hopes proximity talks lead to direct negotiations

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Monday evening said he was happy about the Palestinian leadership's approval of proximity talks, and expressed hope that they would "quickly be followed by direct talks that really advance the peace process."
“As I said during my speech at Bar Ilan University, the two principles guiding me are Palestinian recognition of Israel as the state of the Jewish people, and security arrangements that will ensure Israel’s security for years to come. I believe that by clinging to these principles we will progress to peace and security,” he added in a statement.
