Netanyahu: No place for politics in matters of national security

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he will retain the defense portfolio in a televised address on Sunday.

"There is no place for politics and personal matters in matters of national security," he added.

Former defense minister Avigdor Liberman resigned last resigned Wednesday over Egyptian/UN-brokered ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza.

Netanyahu refused to give the defense minister portfolio to Minister of Education Naftali Bennett as well as Bayit Yehudi MK Eli Ben-Dahan, the former deputy defense minister.

Coalition partners threatened to trigger an early election over the weekend, and Netanyahu has been working on trying to prevent that from happening.
