New IDF commander: We’re committed to defending the Golan

Brig.-Gen.Yitzhak Turgeman was appointed the new commander of the IDF’s 36th Armored Division, based on the Golan Heights, on Wednesday night, and warned of complex regional challenges the division will face.
During a ceremony at the division’s base in the Golan, the outgoing division commander, Brig.-Gen. Tamir Heiman, said, “The war in Syria has created new challenges, and we’ve created an aggressive line along the border.
To our neighbors I say that we are committed to defending the Golan Heights, its residents, and visitors, and we will not compromise on their security.”
Heiman is set to become the head of the Doctrine and Instruction Division at the IDF’s Operation Branch.
In his address, Turgeman said the division he is about to command is facing the most complex challenges in the Middle East today.
“This uncertainty leaves us no choice but to be fit and ready for any challenge that develops in this arena,” he said.
