New Israeli settlement plans raise ire of EU

The European Union wants "clarification" from Israel following reports that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has authorized plans to advance 1,060 new housing units in east Jerusalem.
If reports are indeed confirmed, the EU says it will call into "serious question" Israel's commitment to peace with the Palestinians, AFP quoted a spokeswoman for EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton as saying.
The spokeswoman went on to say that such an "ill-judged and ill-timed decision" would be condemned if construction plans go ahead.
