New law: Manufacturers must recycle 60% of packaging waste

The Knesset approved Wednesday a new "packaging law" that would require manufacturers to recycle 60% of packaging waste, Army Radio reported Thursday. Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Arden, in cooperation with the Israel Union for Environmental Defense, welcomed the law.

According to the new law, expected to be fully implemented in another six months, manufacturers will have to waste and packaging into designated garbage bins that will be placed in residential areas.

Manufacturers of good such as dairy products, cereals, and electronics products will be responsible for ensuring that every house in the country will be able to have and utilize three bins: paper, plastic, and organic waste.
