No substantial progress made in UN consultation on Syrian issue

No substantial progress was made in the Oct. 17 closed-door consultation on the Syrian issue held by the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
Vitali Churkin, Russian permanent representative to the UN and the rotating president of the Security Council, said the consultation aimed to push the political process in Syria by taking advantage of the Lausanne talks.
Churkin said it was but a procedural discussion but the security council members failed to try to reach a consensus.
"I think it may reflect the fact that people are beginning to treat the situation around Aleppo in a more comprehensive way," said Churkin.
