The Israel Institute of Technology Professor Daniel Schectman announced that he is running for president of Israel on Friday on Channel 1 news. Shechtman won the Nobel Prize in 2011 for discovering quasicrystals, which have non-repeating patterns the prize committee described as 'fascinating mosaics of the Arabic world reproduced at the level of atoms.'
