Chicago-based African-American Rabbi Capers Funnye called for US President Barack Obamato grant clemency to imprisoned Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard, in an interview with Army Radio on Wednesday.
"I feel that the time [Pollard] served has been sufficient for the crime that was done," Funnye said.
Noting that Pollard has expressed remorse for his crime, the rabbi said he is "hopeful that the president will commute the sentence to time served."
When asked if he knew of any plans by Obama to visit Israel, Funnye said he had no immediate knowledge of such plans but said: "The last time he visited eretz Yisrael
was when he was a senator; time has come for him to visit as president."
