Obama says Giffords "fighting for her life"; in our prayers

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, US President Barack Obama said that congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is "fighting for her life," after being shot in her head at a public event for her constituents in Tucson, Arizona earlier in the day.
Obama confirmed that among the six people killed in the shooting were US District Judge John Roll and a 9-year-old girl. He said that a suspect is in custody but it is still unknown "what provoked the unspeakable act."
The US president also said that he had instructed the director of the FBI to travel to Arizona in order to assist with the investigation.
Saying that Giffords is a personal friend of his, Obama asked the American people to join him and First Lady Michelle Obama by keeping the families of those injured and killed in their thoughts and prayers. He said, "our thoughts go out to the family members of those who were slain."
