Officials: Fatah conference extended to Tuesday

A Fatah official said on Saturday that the faction was extending its conference until Tuesday, as the movement tries to revive its political fortunes in its first mass meeting in 20 years. Fatah led years of peace talks with Israel and if the group can resolve its internal problems, it could help revive negotiations. Conference official Mohammed Makhlouf said on Saturday that hundreds of members meeting in the West Bank town of Bethlehem need more time to discuss Fatah's political program and elect members to the movement's powerful committees. Proceedings were meant to end on Thursday but have since dragged on.
