Ovadia Yosef's son: Women are can't teach beyond 4th grade

Chief Rabbi of Holon and son of Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, Abraham Yosef, issued a ruling in recent days forbidding women from working as teachers to children over the age of 9.

The younger Rabbi Yosef said that "if it was slightly over age 9, I would still look the other way, but beyond 4th grade, in 5th grade, it's a woman standing in front of children that understand and that's permissive - it's completely forbidden for a woman to teach 4th grade and above.

The statement was made in response to a question posed by a mother on a radio show. She asked if it were permissible for a woman teacher to prepare a boy for his bar mitzvah.
