Pakistan forces kill 34 militants in northwest

ISLAMABAD - Pakistani paramilitary forces killed 34 Taliban militants in clashes in the restive tribal region on the Afghan border on Thursday, the military said.
Three soldiers were also killed in the battle.
"Militants attacked FC soldiers while they were carrying out search operation in the area," the military said in a statement referring to the paramilitary Frontier Corps. "Security forces responded effectively."
Pakistan faces pressure from the United States to eliminate safe havens for militants in its lawless tribal belt from where they mount attacks across the border on US-led foreign and Afghan forces.
