A young boy was shot by IDF soldiers near in the northern Gaza Strip on Sunday, the Palestinian Ma'an news agency reported. The report cited Muawiya Hassanein, the director of Ambulance and Emergency Services in the Ministry of Health in Gaza, as saying the boy, Ashraf Abu Suleiman, was shot in the spine. Hassanein also told the news agency the IDF denied ambulances access to the area, claiming he was evacuated to a hospital only two hours later. An IDF spokeswoman reportedly told Ma'an that during an army operation, soldiers identified a "suspicious Palestinian man" approaching the border fence, and fired warning shots in the air. After the Palestinian ignored warning shots, the spokeswoman said, the army fired at and lightly injured him. The Jerusalem Post could not independently confirm the report.
