A Boston homeless man with a violent history allegedly stabbed two park rangers on Tuesday on the Boston Common, the oldest US park, critically wounding one of them, police said.
The 34-year-old man lunged at the unarmed rangers when they approached him and stabbed them repeatedly, Police Commissioner William Evans told reporters.Bodio Hutchinson, who had arrest warrants for drugs and for assault on a police officer, was taken into custody by police. He likely will face attempted murder charges, Evans said.
"He has a very violent, assaultive past history," Evans said.
One of the rangers, a 46-year-old sergeant with 20 years on the force, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with life-threatening injuries and was undergoing surgery.
