Pentagon chief says fired senior military assistant after allegations of misconduct

WASHINGTON- US Defense Secretary Ash Carter said on Thursday he had removed his senior military assistant, Lieutenant General Ron Lewis, from his position "after learning about allegations of misconduct."
Carter said he had referred the matter to the inspector general of the Defense Department. "The Department of the Army will then take action as appropriate," Carter said in a brief statement that did not refer to the nature of the alleged misconduct.
