Moral sanctions must be implemented against the regime in Teheran, President Shimon Peres urged on Tuesday, adding that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad must not “handle himself as if he were a king” when he is actually “a dictator.”
Speaking at the Herzliya Conference, Peres described with great optimism Israel’s status in the international community, praising the country’s scientific achievements.
“We’re too small to be [mass] producers, too big to be a market, insolent enough to be a global laboratory,” he said. “Israel is the most popular country in the world.”
The president stated that while there is no shortage of countries critical of the Jewish state, it also has many good friends around the world. “Israel is so far the only country that has been able to stop terrorism,” he said. He then joked, “We have a problem with Sweden, but we’ll take care of it.”
