Peres wraps-up visit to Azerbaijan, heads to Kazakhstan

President Shimon Peres concluded the first leg of his historic Eurasian trip, as he wrapped up his Azerbaijan stay ahead of departing to Kazakhstan. "I would like to thank Azerbaijan for the warm hospitality it bestowed upon me, the Israeli ministers and 60 businessmen accompanying my entourage," Peres said. "Azerbaijan has proven that it is a true friend of Israel, and I am happy that despite the grave threats from Iran aimed at canceling and sabotaging my visit, Azerbaijan did not succumb to the pressure and decided to enhance its strategic relations with Israel." On his last day in the Muslim republic, Peres visited Baku's synagogue, where he reiterated to hundreds of Jewish community members the importance of reinforcing ties between Israel and Azerbaijan.
