PM says willing to make good will gestures to advance talks

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke German Chancellor Angela Merkel Thursday, assuring her of the Israeli government's willingness to put forward confidence building measures toward the continuation of peace talks with the Palestinian Authority, the German government said.
Merkel, for her part, told Netanyahu she would contact PA President Mahmoud Abbas to relay that message. The German chancellor expressed "great concern" that the current round of talks taking place in Jordan could be broken off. She asked Netanyahu to do all he could to enable their continuation.
The two premiers also discussed the Iranian nuclear program, with Netanyahu expressing his gratitude to Germany for its role in passing recent European sanctions against the Islamic Republic. The two called on Tehran to accept a Western offer for talks on its proliferation.
