Police: 36% drop in serious crime in Israel's south

There was a 36 percent drop in serious crime in Israel’s south between 2010-2011, according to an announcement made by the Southern District Police on Tuesday.
Police said that out of 23 murders in the district in 2011, 18 were solved the same year, while the rest of the cases remain open.
According to police, there was a 55.9% drop in reported property crimes in the Southern District, as well as a drop of 65.5% in burglaries.
The district carried out a total of 9838 arrests in 2011, 1104 of them of minors as per police figures. In addition, police said they recorded 12.4% drop in juvenile crime and a 15.6% drop in violent juvenile crime from 2010-2011.
The police also reported success in fighting drug crimes, with a 23.5% increase in arrests for drug dealing over 2010.
